The Catholic Church in Jersey Supports the Diocese of Bamenda in Cameroon, West Africa. In 1974 the Diocese of Portsmouth Was Twinned with the Diocese of Bamenda. This Project Is the Practical expression of co- responsibility in the church. At present we have no priest working in Bamenda, but some priests from that diocese are now working in the Portsmouth diocese. Father James McAuley is on the diocesan Bamenda committee and is our local contact.
A priority in our island parish is Youth Formation of our young people in their Catholic faith. As there is no free Catholic education, as in the aided system in the UK, much emphasis is given by the church in Jersey to providing some catechesis in states primary schools.
This national organisation was founded to promote religious, education and social welfare, and to represent Catholic Women’s interests on National and international bodies. There are two branches in Jersey.
