Baptism
Baptism marks the beginning of our life of faith in relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church.
For detailed information about what you need to do to enable you to organise a baptism in one of our churches, please contact the office manager in each area.
We hope the information below will be of assistance to you:
- Baptism Preparation Classes are important for all first time parents to attend – these are normally held by our Deacons or Catechists. These classes will help all parents to understand the role of sponsors and Godparents in relation to the baptism of their child. In recognizing the importance of the godparent and their duties, the church has provided guidelines to help parents choose the best possible godparents for their children. A godparent must have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First communion and Confirmation.
- We have a large number of baptisms every year. Group baptisms in all our churches are normally held on weekends – please refer to each area for the available dates.
- Naming your child is very important providing your child with a unique identity. The long standing tradition of the Church has been to give at least one name of a saint or person from our Biblical tradition. A Christian name will provide your child with a model for Christ-centered living.
- The baptism will be recorded in our permanent records and a baptismal certificate will be issued.
- Fees for baptisms are left to the discretion of each family. We are grateful to all those families who are generous in their contributions for the time spent by our priest, deacons and catechists, to enable this significant occasion to be organised so happily for all concerned.
