The purpose of a Catholic funeral is to pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased and bring spiritual consolation and hope to those who mourn their loved ones.
Any Catholic or relative of a Catholic may have the services of a Catholic priest or deacon to conduct their funeral. These usually take place in one of our churches church followed by either a cremation or a burial in one of the island cemeteries.
The day, time and place are usually arranged by the funeral directors with the local area church office manager. The choice of either a mass or service is decided by the priest or deacon when they meet the family of the deceased. On that occasion the order of service will be determined. This will involve the choice of appropriate hymns and Scripture readings.
It is not permitted to use CDs containing non-religious music in our church buildings. A brief tribute to the deceased is allowed towards the end of the service, but the text should be shown to the priest or deacon to ensure there is no duplication in what is being said. Further information will be provided by the funeral director of your choice.
